How to Play Brasta in 3 Minutes
Learn the essentials before your first game: match cards by value, collect table cards that add up to your played card, and create builds you can capture on a later turn.
The quick start explains the opening deal, legal captures, scoring cards, the Jack sweep, and how to begin a friendly Oracle practice match.
1. Play one card
Brasta is a two-player card game. On your turn, play exactly one card from your hand. The card may capture cards from the table or be left there as a trail.
2. Match a card
Play a card with the same number as a loose card on the table and take both cards. For example, a 7 captures a 7 regardless of suit.
3. Add cards up
A number card may capture two or more loose table cards whose values add to it. An 8 can capture 5 + 3, taking all three cards in one move.
4. Build for later
Combine table cards into a numbered build, such as playing a 4 on a 3 to make a build of 7. You must hold the matching 7 so you can claim the build later.
Builds can be raised up to 10 when you already hold the new total. A build that you cannot claim is exposed to a -10 build-failure penalty.
5. Learn the special cards
Queens capture Queens and Kings capture Kings. Each Ace is worth +5 points, all four Aces earn an additional +10, and the 2 of Clubs and 10 of Diamonds are valuable special cards.
A Jack sweeps every loose card on the table, but it cannot take builds. Playing a Jack when there are no loose cards causes a -10 Jack-burn penalty.
6. Make a Brasta
Clear every loose card from the table in one capture with a non-Jack card to make a Brasta. A Brasta earns +10 points and a permanent Gold Brasta Coin; a Jack sweep does not count.
7. Play your first hand
Capture whenever a legal capture is available, watch which scoring cards remain, and use the friendly Oracle game to practice without match pressure.
